Fieldstone Commons
Tolland, CT
Fieldstone Commons is a 100,000 Square Foot Community Shopping Center in Tolland, CT, constructed in a four building village setting. It is anchored by a Big Y Supermarket and occupied by a variety of local and national tenants in retail and restaurant businesses. The structure of the buildings is steel and concrete, but the building facades consist of natural materials. The finishes, the rooflines and the exterior details have been selected to create the architectural look, feel and charm of a typical New England village center. The center is bordered by fieldstone walls expertly crafted from the native stones painstakingly gathered on site.
The work performed by Fortunato Construction included comprehensive sitework to clear the land and create the infrastructure needed to develop and improve this virgin location. Access and utility connections required extensive offsite improvements including roadway widening, traffic signal work and major utility improvements. The construction of the buildings encompassed the building shells and exterior work, interior (landlord) improvements and tenant fit up services. The project was closely managed and supervised with careful attention to establishing a very high level of quality, maintaining an aggressive schedule and providing detailed, timely and accurate financial reporting.
Fortunato Construction was selected as the Construction Manager and became involved in this project early on, providing preliminary budgets, schedules, and a master plan for the execution of the construction. Fortunato went on to manage the project from site development to tenant fit up. Throughout construction, Fortunato maintained a close working relationship with the Owner consistently earning high marks for service, follow through, attention to detail, and commitment.
Fortunato Construction was originally selected for this project based on it ability to provide all of the skills this owner needed to support its development effort with minimum in house staff. Here’s what Gregg Nanni, the Owner’s managing agent, had to say about Fortunato Construction after the completion of the project
“The FCG management team brings to the project a strong blend of experience, diligence and integrity, earning them respect from all those involved in the project. With that respect they are able to lead, manage and supervise the project with confidence and ensure that our goals as the project owner are consistently met. Across the board FCG personnel demonstrate pride and integrity in the work they do. It is evident that the company’s ownership has fostered an environment where these traits are recognized and rewarded. For us as owner/developers, that translates to real value.”
The Owner / Developer of the project is Prospect Enterprises. The Architect for the Project is Pepin Associates, a firm with whom Fortunato has been associated on many occasions for more than twenty five years. The civil engineering was provided by VHB. Fortunato Construction’s team on this project included Peter Romano, vice president, and Bob Wheeler, superintendent.
Fortunato Construction has continued to provide Construction Services to Prospect Enterprises at other locations.
